New to the Bryant Family Blog? Don't worry. We are too! We are in the process of building our family business website, so please bear with us as we get our pages written!
We are a Christian homeschooling family striving to serve the Lord. We reside on an acreage in rural Kansas. We have a small family business and sell all-natural chicken and turkey, grass-finished beef, fresh eggs, and goat milk. This is the journal of our farm life, adventures, and learning experiences. We're glad you've stopped by, and hope you'll visit again! Let us know what you think.

Prayer for the Upcoming Election Wednesday | October 29, 2008
God has shown my family the importance of the choice God's people make as they place their vote in this upcoming election. Seeing that our decision will decide how God will lead our nation, I have been driven to my knees in prayer for the deliverance of our nation's freedom.
I would like to suggest that we as Christians dedicate November 3, 2008 as a day for the constant prayer and/or fasting for our future generations and the freedom of our country. We know that God is in control no matter what happens, but we also realize that God will hear our prayers of supplication for our future and our children's future. I believe that God hears our prayers and will answer them; He is faithful to His people who will call upon Him: "For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD is in all things that we call upon him for?" (Deut. 4:7)
Will you, dear friends, take the time to pray or fast on this date, November 3, for the future of our nation's freedom? For our children's future?
If you have a blog, will you post on your blog a request that other Christians unite in prayer with us so, that in one accord, we may send our prayers unto the Most High? God will hear, and it can change the future!"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13)
Please let us know if you will pray with us!

Hedge Apples free to a good home: repels spiders and insects... If only there were people who wanted them! We keep these out of the cow pastures since cows love to eat them. We had a bull choke and die from choking on one, so we are diligent to keep them out of the pasture. Maybe we should just cut the tress down; that would be less work and mess!
Tonight, we listened to a tape of the "Sugar Creek Gang"

10.18.08 | Hog Farmers and Farmer's Markets Nathan has been wanting to raise pigs to add to our farm-fresh meats. We found a local hog farm that has baby pigs for sell. Nathan has read books about raising pigs, but nothing is a teacher like real-life experience. We learned how to shelter and take care of them. Now, to decide if we want to try raising them through the winter -- since they must stay dry and out of the wind or they could get sick and possibly die.
A Hog-Wild Ride! ...on the tractor, down the trail, through the mud, up the hill...a bit more than we bargained for! Who needs amusement parks?!
The past few Saturdays, we've set up a table at our local Farmer's Market.
Ready to sell

10.10.08 | Griddlecake Breakfast Recipe We have a wonderful recipe for pancakes. They are the best ones we've ever made! The recipe is from the "Fannie Farmer's Cookbook." My favorite part about the recipe is that most of it is oatmeal, so there is only a small amount of wheat gluten. This is the recipe for oatmeal griddlecakes, we like this with chopped apples added. Right now we add chopped apples since we have an abundance of them!
Makes 16 pancakes (we usually make eight batches)
1/2 cup milk
2 tbsp melted butter
1 egg
2 tbsp. flour
1/2 cup oatmeal
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
Heat the 1/2 cup milk and stir in 1/2 cup quick cooking oatmeal; let stand 10 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients. Beat the milk, oats butter and egg lightly. Mix the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt and add them to the first mixture; now add chopped apple, stirring slightly. Drop in small portions on a hot griddle pan, and cook until bubbles form, flipping to other side. Enjoy!
Ingredients - with fresh Bryant Family Farm eggs!

10.08.08 | Apples, Apples, and more Apples....
Well, as you have probably gathered, we picked over 1000 pounds of apples last weekend. It only took us about one and one half hours to pick them, but storing and preserving them is taking much longer! We are finally getting caught up...We've canned, dried, and juiced more than half of them thus far. We sold apple butter and dried apples last Saturday at the Kaw Valley Farm Tour. Here are pictures of us storing the apples.
Before we picked apples, we visited our friends' open house at HummV Alpaca Farm
Now, back to peeling more apples....
