A Tractor Ride

Nathan driving our Ford 8-N
It is such a fun sight to see Nathan on the tractor zipping along the pasture, with a puff of dust blowing up behind him. He loves our 8-N tractor and is saving up to buy his own big tractor someday. I have given him several money-earning proposals for this purpose, one being 'write a book'! I hope he and Jonathan take up the challenge and compile a book of their farm boy adventures. Would you be interested in reading it?! Let them know what you think.
Nathan took Rachael and I with him one morning to do his chores with him. He took us on an exciting adventure of riding on the wagon behind "his" tractor. He is a adventuresome and creative driver. ;)

As he watered the pigs, I took this self-portrait shot from my perch on the wagon

In the Works

Finishing KBR's 2011 calendar
I have been working on the fall issue of KBR, designing our 2011 calendars, updating "The Young Maid Compilation," eagerly awaiting the arrival of "The Family Daughter," and have another project-in-the-thoughts...maybe sometime soon it will come into the "in the works" stage as well. We'll see what God has! It is a privilege to work on these projects which He has given me to do.

Welcome Home Brandon!

Brandon arrived in the United States from his year-long deployment to Iraq this weekend. We were so happy to see him again and to know he is safe and sound!

His plane arriving
We were very thankful we were able to fly to Texas to welcome Brandon home. We were not certain when he was to arrive back in the States, so we were not able to make plans to go. It is about a 20-hour drive, a long drive for last minute plans. Friday afternoon, we received a phone call from a duty soldier informing us of Brandon's arrival the following day. We were thrilled to know exactly when he would arrive. Decisions had to be made quickly, but we were able to make last minute flight plans, approximately nine hours before we needed to depart, plus hotel and car rental arrangements. All the flights went very smoothly, for which we were very thankful since some of us get motion sick, well, only one of us does. We arrived in Texas five hours before Brandon's arrival. How exciting to watch his plane arrive!

Welcome home Brandon!!!
Thank you, Prigge family for your love and support while we were away, and many thanks to Courtney, the Family Readiness Group Coordinator, who helped us with arranging details for the trip, and helped us find Brandon in the sea of happy soldiers, which proved to be no easy task! We received a great gift from our Lord who allowed us to attend Brandon's homecoming. We even made it back in time for Tom to be at work on Monday for a very necessary meeting.

After some rest, Brandon showed us some very interesting pictures of Iraq. It was great to see the area and the things he did and learned. Thank you for a job well done, Brandon!

Camping Trip 2010

The children went on a camping trip this week - the hottest week this summer! Not the best time to go camping, but they had a great time despite the 103.3 degree heat.

Each child planned a meal and prepared it. Nathan made delicious mashed potatoes and Jonathan cooked a terrific breakfast. Rachael made oatmeal and Samuel planned an uncooked meal

The wood certainly was not needed for warmeth

Sweaty campers

Food just tastes better cooked over an open fire

Pendleton's Country Market

We have enjoyed visiting Pendleton's Country Market this spring and summer. Karen, the owner, supplied transplants for Rachael's flower garden this year. She proved to be an invaluable source of knowledge and advice. Thank you, Karen!

Camp Dinner

Jonathan planned and cooked a campfire dinner for us in preparation for their camping trip. He prepared all the vegetables and meat ahead of time and took great care in making it for us. Thank you, Jonathan, for a job well done!

He is quite the chef

After six years, we finally found a great place to have Mom's favorite painting framed. Thank you, friends at DorMail Gallery for doing a great job!

Fresh Chickens!

All-natural fresh broilers are currently available
Our last butcher day until the fall season went very well despite the severe heat index. This summer we have loaded the chickens the morning we butcher instead of the evening before. The heat is too intense in the trailer if we leave them long. With all the broilers now butchered, we are thankful for a brief rest from moving the chicken pens twice a day, although Nathan still moves the pigs, goats, and hens; the baby turkeys will go out on pasture soon. We will begin raising broiler chicks again in August.

News Release: To Press!

"Sharing from her own struggles and triumphs, homeschooler Sarah Bryant encourages young ladies to become vital cornerstones in their father’s home, while preparing for godly womanhood. Filled with encouragement and personal testimonies, The Family Daughter will help Christian girls begin the journey of being their family’s pillar of strength and virtue." ~From the Cover
As hinted a few posts ago [6.01.10], The Family Daughter: Becoming Pillars of Strength in Our Father's House is now complete! Now two years after I began writing this book, it is hard for me to believe it is finally published.Looking back over the journey of writing a book, I can wholeheartedly testify of the Lord's provision which has brought this project to completion.
In the summer of 2008, the Lord prompted me to write a booklet for girls, to encourage them to serve their families right where they are - in the home - and prepare to be godly homemakers while doing so. My main goal in compiling this was to truly share my heart - my failures, my weaknesses, what the Lord had taught me - with girls just like me. I started laying out my thoughts, then I brought the "book" to my parents to edit. At this point I truly thought I could have it published within three months. If I would have known what a large project it would turn out to be, I know I would have never pressed on with it. But the Lord did not reveal that to me!
When months passed and it still did not come together - despite my efforts to make it happen - I realized my inability to do this outside the Lord's timing and will. So I continued to work on the book, expand it, add thoughts to it throughout that next year (2009), and improve the layout.

Editing the book
I thought that for sure, it would be done by the end of 2009, but when the New Year rolled around and TFD still was not going forward, the Lord brought me to His feet in complete surrender. I realized that this would NOT happen until I gave it all to Him, realized His lordship over this project, and allowed Him to work His perfect timing in it. So I gave it up to Him, and prayed that even if it was His will that The Family Daughter never be published, I would rest in that fact. I knew there was no other way to be in His will without giving it to Him completely.
Spring 2010 arrived with all of its busyness for our farm, and as I had continued to edit and refine TFD, it finally had come to the last line - I had edited it and my dad had finished proofing the manuscript. The only thing left was Mom editing it one last time - so I took a deep breath, and asked her if there was any way I could help her do this. Her willing reply was a great encouragement to me in my discouragement! On top of all the tasks she had on her mind and the projects she was trying to complete with our farm business, she set aside time daily and was dedicated to finishing the book. The last day came - and Mom and I were so glad that there was "only 20 pages left" to edit. I am so thankful for all the hours of editing and advice both my parents have given me through the process of editing TFD.

Mom, editing The Family Daughter, August 2009
Then came the final leg before we would send off TFD to press - sending proof copies to editors and friends to review. I am so thankful now that we did not skip this part, as the input and correction from others was truly valuable. I so appreciate the time these kind friends gave to this project.
The big day is here - we sent The Family Daughter to press this morning! I am praying that this printing process will go smoothly. If it does, we should be receiving hundreds of copies in just a few weeks.

The Family Daughter: Draft and digital form
My prayer is that this book will encourage girls to seek the Lord and use their maiden years wisely. If the Lord uses The Family Daughter to turn just one girl's heart to her family, I will be so grateful to hear the Lord is blessing this work!
Thank you friends for your support and help as I have completed this project! We are offering a pre-publication special for The Family Daughter until August 30, 2010 - early-bird price is $10.00 (+shipping). Click here if you would like to read an excerpt from the book.
